1:10

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. The Word came into the world, the same Word who was there in the beginning with God, whom also was God, and all things where made through him. Yet no one knew this one called the Word. For the most part we recognize our own mothers but we don't recognize the one who spoke our mothers into being. Please help us LORD GOD to recognize it when the Word is around.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. The Word is the true light, not a reflection of light, like the moon is to the sun. The Word is light and produces light and everything else reflects that light. I think that when it says which enlightens everyone it is like how the sun shines on the just and the unjust. Some are grateful for that sun shining down on them while others are suppressing the truth that the light that is shining down on them comes from somewhere else other then themselves. This same light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world in a real tangible way that we could see,and touch, and be with, Thank You LORD GOD for this WORD.

He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. John must have been quite a Godly man in order for the author of this gospel to point out that John was not the light. John had to be a Godly man in order to be the forerunner for the Word. He was not sinless though, there is none righteous, no not one. He, like the rest of Gods people was saved by Divine grace.

He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. John's life itself was a witness that he had come from God. His father was told that he would be born when his father and mother where old and childless. His father was not able to speak until John was born and he revealed the name that the angel told him to name John, which amazed everyone around because they knew what was going on. John's whole life was a sign given by God to bear witness about the light, which was the Word.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. We are going to have to read on to find out who this John is. This little bit of information about John comes right at the tail end of reading about the Word, could John be the Word? One thing that we see from this text is that John was sent from God. Keep tuning in to find out who John is.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. This is an ancient battle between light and dark, dark and light. Up to this point in time darkness has not been able to overcome the light, which is the life, which is the Word.

1:4

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The life that the Word had was the life that only God has, which is eternal, indestructible, and depending on nothing or no one for its existence. Our life's on the other hand are temporary, destroyed easily and, depend on this one called the Word and God to sustain our life's.
The life was the light of men is like when the sun shines on my front yard and hits all the dandy lions, they open up to receive nourishment from the sun. When ever this one called the Word was around men, women, and children they opened up to him to receive his light, which is life for the very core of who we are.
